Plaid Stamps Double-Sided Enamel Sign
In the 1950's and 1960's, the heyday of supermarket trading
stamps, two brands were universally recognized, "S&H"
Green Stamps and Plaid Stamps. S&H Green Stamps were given
out in many supermarkets while the Plaid Stamps were exclusive
to the A&P Supermarket chain. For every dollar
spent in the store you were given a stamp which was pasted into
a book and could then be redeemed for a wide variety of items.
We are not sure why they lost their appeal or why the
supermarkets ceased giving them out but by the 1970's they had
virtually disappeared. We suspect that the high cost of administering
them made them economically not viable. Of course when the A&P
chain folded the Plaid Stamps died with them.
Our 24" x 30.25" double-sided enamel sign has some
enamel chipping, scratches and some rust spots along the edges.
The holes for hanging are somewhat bent. A very nice affordable
reminder of simpler times. (Stock number 003PlaidStamp) $100.00
