Vintage Watch Factory Advertising Prints
Factory of Waltham Watch Company Waltham, Mass.,
U. S. A. Advertising Poster. The Waltham Watch Company, incorporated
in 1851, produced a broad line of affordable pocket and wrist
watches in a large factory located along the banks of the Charles
River in Waltham, Massachusetts. The city is about 10 miles west
of Boston. We believe this poster is about 100 years old. The
company closed its doors in 1957 but the buildings still exist,
recycled into R&D space, offices and warehouses. Today Waltham,
a city of many immigrants and ethnic groups, honors its manufacturing
past by promoting itself as Watch City U. S. A. 35" wide
x 18" high. There are tack holes in the corners, a tear along
the top edge and some minor creasing. The piece is a wonderful
historical piece documenting our nation's entrepreneurial spirit
and vitality. (Stock Number 003Waltham) $200.00
Elgin National Watch Works Advertising Poster. This
panoramic broadside of the Elgin Watch Works in Elgin, Illinois
and the Waltham Watch poster above hung in a watchmaker's shop
for many years. The company was established in 1864 as the National
Watch Company. Elgin was the first spin-off of the American Watch
Co. (Waltham Watches). The original building was razed in 1864
then rebuilt in 1866. Additional buildings were constructed and
annexed over time. In 1909-1910 an Observatory was installed at
the factory. Judging by the clothing of the people on the street
and the various means of transportation pictured on it; horse
drawn carriages, trolleys, early automobiles, and a steam locomotive,
we believe the piece dates to the early part of the 20th century.
c. 1905. 33.5" wide x 18" high. There are tack holes
in the corners, and the lower right corner has a bite out of it.
There are tears along the lower edge, the largest being 3"
in length. There is some staining along the upper right edge.
This piece is still a wonderful piece of period advertising. (Stock
Number 003Elgin) SOLD
