Syroco Architectural Carvings Made by Syracuse Ornamental
Co. - 1917
Syroco Fibre Wood Carvings were produced by the Syracuse Ornamental
Co. for the purpose of decorating furniture and cabinets. They
added a touch of class to inexpensive mass produced articles.
Most carvings were available in the woods most commonly used in
the first two decades of the Twentieth Century: mahogany, birch,
walnut, oak, birds-eye maple as well as for enamel. We discovered
a small cache of catalog plates in a New Hampshire barn. Most
of the illustrations are dated 1917, 1921 or 1929. Each plate
measures approximately 21" x 16" They are in remarkably
good condition considering their age. Some have some paper discoloration
or small nicks or tears but no major defects.
