Histoire Naturelle - Max Ernst - Limited Edition Portfolio
This marvelous portfolio contains 34 plates created by Max
Ernst (1891-1976), German painter and sculpture and one of the
founders of Surrealism. The original work was published in Paris
in 1926 in an edition of 306. In 1972 the portfolio was reprinted
in Germany in an edition of 1200 copies. 400 copies were printed
in English and reserved for publisher Harry N. Abrams, Inc. in
New York. Jean Arp, the co-founder with Max Ernst of a Dadaist
group in Cologne, wrote the introduction to the original portfolio
and it is reproduced in this edition. This copy is number A255.
The plates Measure 13" wide x 19.75" tall. They rest
in a cloth covered clamshell box with original shipping carton.
It is in excellent condition. Truly an excellent opportunity
