This comprehensive and profusely illustrated book provides
accurate information about what people of a given time were wearing.
It starts with the Egyptians continues through Biblical, Greek
& Roman periods, Renaissance, Elizabethan, Charles I, Restoration,
Georgian, Directoire, Romantic, Crinoline, Bustle, Fin de Siecle
and the New Century (20th). The black and white line drawings
depict men's and women's clothing as well as patterns, furnishings
and period motifs. The beginning of each chapter has a time line
of important names and events for England, France, Germany and
America. There is also a list of plays to be costumed in the period.
