Toots Shor Dinner Menu with Photograph of Baseball Greats
Toots Shor's Restaurant at 51 West 51st Street in Manhattan
was a New York landmark in the 1940's and 1950's. It was the place
the famous and would be famous went to see and to be seen. Society
columnists would regularly report on the comings and goings of
celebrities from the theater, television, the movies and sports.
We offer this dinner menu dated Friday, September 18, 1953 with
a picture on the back of 14 of baseball's greatest. Even though
they are all past their glory days they strike us as a group of
robust men whose demeanor speaks of their athletic prowess and
good fortune. We do not know the occasion for the gathering.
Back row: Jimmy Foxx, Mel Ott, Mickey Cochrane, Ed Walsh,
Toots Shor, Rogers Hornsby, Pie Traynor, Tris Speaker.
Front row: Fred Clarke, Arlie Latham, Cy Young, George Sisler,
Charley Nichols, Ty Cobb, Charley Gehringer.
We also show the front and body of the menu. It is always
interesting to see what a filet mignon or lobster thermidor cost
50 years ago. The oversized menu measures 10" x 14"
It had been folded otherwise it is in very nice condition. All
in all a wonderful piece of baseball memorabilia. (Stock number
