
President James A. Garfield Sheet Music
James A. Garfield, 20th President of the United States, distinguished
himself during the Civil War, rising to the rank of Major General.
He was a Congressman from Ohio and a senator elect when he was
nominated by the Republican Party as a compromise candidate. He
was sworn in as President in April 1881, was shot by a mentally
disturbed office-seeker in July and died in September 1881.
