Cathedral of Commerce - Woolworth Building - New York Souvenir
Booklet
The Cathedral of Commerce - Woolworth Building New York, an
appreciation and history by Edwin A. Cochran, praises the imagination
of mind of Frank W. Woolworth and the genius of Cass Gilbert,
the architect who implemented that vision. When the building was
dedicated and opened in 1913 it became the world's tallest building,
60 stories tall. The Gothic inspired architecture paid homage
to the grandeur of commerce in the United States in the early
part of the 20th century much as the great European Gothic cathedrals
were built in praise and devotion to the divine. This publication
is illustrated with photos and artist's renderings of the building,
visible and unseen. The title on the cover is in raised gold.
32 pages. 8" x 11.5" Paper adhesion on centerfold pictures,
visible above. Light foxing on title page, otherwise very nice
condition.
