Popeye Carnival Chalk Figure
Popeye was first introduced in E. C. Segar's Thimble
Theatre comic strip in 1929. Within a year the muscled, spinach
eating sailor became the most popular character in the strip.
Over 400 animated shorts were made for the movies and television.
Numerous Popeye promotional items have been produced over the
years as well as items featuring the other characters in the strip
such as Olive Oyl, Wimpy, Swee'pea, and Jeep. This 15.5"
chalk figure was most certainly a carnival prize. It probably
dates from the 1930's. It has its original red, yellow, black
and blue paint. There is a small area of paint loss on the left
arm and some minor crazing on the neck. On the whole he is in
remarkably good condition for a toy of this age. There are no
marks. Click to view back $100.00
