
Turtle Decoys

When we encountered these intriquing figures we weren't exactly
sure what they were. We were told they were turtle decoys, with
some age and possibly from the Carribean. How they got to New
England is a mystery. We don't even want to think about what they
did to the live turtles of this size once they were caught. But
the decoys, distant in time and space from reality, make interesting
conversation pieces. For crudely constructed pieces they are remarkably
expressive. They are wooden and show the "driftwood effect"
as a result of having spent a considerable amount of time in the
water. They measure approximately 28" in length and 8"
