English Conservative Party Election Poster
"Smokeless Chimneys and- Anxious Mothers! The Remedy
- Vote for the National Government." This post-war poster
depicts the anxiety of woman who worried about the fate of their
husbands returning from battle as well as the fate of their children
in a time of scarcity and privation. The English Conservative
Party urges voters to elect a Conservative government as the best
remedy to bring the economy back to peacetime prosperity. The
poster has been overprinted. The original wording was "Smokeless
Chimneys and- Anxious Mothers! Safeguarding will Prevent this

The poster is signed "G. Harrington" in the plate
lower right. It is copyright of and published by The National
Union of Conservative and Unionist Associations, Palace Chambers,
Westminster, S.W.1, and printed by Grosvenor Advertising Co, Ltd,
London. W.1. The piece measures 16.5" x 29.5" There
is a small tear and weak corners otherwise it is in very nice
