Heal & Son Department Store Posters
Heal and Son, long a fixture on Tottenham Court Road, London
W1, offers furniture and decorative accessories of fine quality
and exceptional design. In concert with their competitor Liberty's
they have provided a showcase for home furnishings in the major
styles of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Arts and
Crafts and Art Deco styles were represented on the showroom floor.
The Mansard Gallery at Heal's threw a spotlight on new merchandise
and provided an opportunity to promote artists and designers.
We discovered Heal's on a trip to England in 1973 and fell
in love with it. It reminded us very much of Bloomingdale's in
New York City, always known for promoting progressive design.
We recently discovered a small stash of reproduction posters
published in the early 1980's advertising sales and exhibitions
at Heal's. The original posters were designed for events that
took place during the 20's and 30's. As you might expect the posters
themselves are beautifully done. Each poster is printed on glossy
paper and measures 20" wide x 30" high. We are selling
them as a lot of 5 for $250.00
