"The Philistine" Poster Published by Elbert Hubbard's
Roycroft Press
Classic Arts and Crafts design is evident in this marvelous
poster for Elbert Hubbard's "Philistine" Magazine.
The magazine provided Hubbard with a soap box for disseminating
his opinions and philosophy. In addition to articles there were
ads for many of the goods produced by the Roycrofters in Aurora,
New York. This original poster, commissioned by Hubbard, was designed
by Dwight Ripley Colin in 1895. It was advertised on the back
cover of "The Philistine", Volume 2, Number 1. The
artist's monogram "C" is in the lower left part of the
image. The image measures 10" x 18", the paper is 14"
x 21". The paper is old and brittle. Paper loss lower left
corner, a few tears and nicks. (Stock Number 003Philistine) $600.00
