Henri Matisse Travel Poster - Nice Travail y Joie - 1948
Classic Matisse (1869-1954) image depicts a still life of
a plate of fruit on a table in front of a window. Matisse is
often cited as one of the most influential painters of the 20th
century. He was a leading Fauvist and employed bold colors in
a spirited and individualistic fashion. This travel poster done
for the City of Nice - Work and Joy in 1948, toward the end of
his long and very productive life, is highly characteristic of
his work. The poster was printed in an edition of 10,000 for
"Edite par le syndicat d'initiative de Nice et l'Union Mediterraneenne
pour L'art Moderne Mourlot Imp. Paris." The piece measures
25" x 39.5" Small nibbles on upper left, and lower
right corners; larger bite out of lower left corner. Minor crease
lower left. Edge roughness and nicks. These are minor imperfections
that can be dealt with easily by a skilled framer. (Stock Number
003Matisse) $1000.00
