Edward Penfield Poster for Harper's Magazine June 1895
An erudite young graduate strolls through a rose garden with
cap and gown, pipe and book. This poster, one of Edward Penfield's
(1866-1925) series of poster for Harper's Magazine, is characterized
by bold colors, simplicity of design and a certain ironic twist.
Penfield's designs for Harper's defined the American poster in
the last decade of the 19th century. This piece was drawn to
advertise the 1895 June issue. It measures approx. 13" x
18.25". There is a crease in the upper left corner, .75"
tear to the left of the word June. (Stock Number 003Penfield)
