Schafer and Vater Pottery
Gustav Schafer and Gunther Vater founded their pottery in
Thurinigia in southwest Germany in 1890. Their product line was
quite extensive, ranging from dresser sets, match strikers, tea
sets, shaving mugs, animal figures, whimsical figures and even
Rose O'Neill Kewpies. They used a very fine grained clay that
resulted in a velvety texture well suited to hand painting. We
are offering two small pieces for sale. Both have playful faces
that are reminiscent of Lewis Carroll Characters.
