Exceptional Floral Viennese Vase with Golden Birds

This extraordinary vase features floral forms growing from the base topped by two golden birds clinging to the rim. The luster glaze gives the piece an ethereal cast while the golden birds provide a strong sense of the dramatic. The potter used the same gold glaze as he used on the birds to outline some of the leaves and flowers. Unfortunately the head of one of the birds appears to have been broken off and re-glued. There is a piece of porcelain missing as well as some glaze loss. Click to see defect Click to see other view of defect A small manufacturing defect is visible on the bottom of the vase.
