
Rockwell Kent "Our America" Plates for Vernon Kilns

Rockwell Kent, well known book illustrator and poster,
Christmas card and advertising designer, was hired by Vernon
Kilns in the late 1930s. Working out of his New York studio
he created over 30 designs for "Our America".
This series included images of people and scenes representing
the regions of the United States.
We have an 8.5" blue and white example with an fishing
theme. Marked :Our America" designed by Rockwell Kent Vernon
Kilns Made in U.S.A. There is a small chip in the rear which is
barely visibule from the front at approximately 8 o'clock. (Stock

The 10.5" plate (above) depicts New York City
viewed from the bay. In the foreground are its piers, while its
skyscrapers cluster behind. A dramatic sky provides the backdrop.

The 9.5" plate (below) provides a view of Chicago
from the river. The drawbridge is raised, a boat passes through,
the buildings rise before us, and the setting sun lights the scene.
